Man, son held for murder of son-in-law in Mumbai

The accused’s two minor sons, aged 17 and 15 respectively, allegedly helped him in the act.

A 52-year-old man allegedly murdered his 35-year-old son-in-law in Kandivli (East) to seek revenge for the death of his daughter who died of burn injuries six years ago in Bihar.

According to Samta Nagar police, the incident took place on Thursday when the victim, Shyam Sundar Sahu, 35, had gone to meet his father-in-law Sajan Sahu, 52, at his residence in Poisar, Kandivli (East).

Shyam lived in Santacruz and used to work in a shop while his father-in-law Sajan worked as a watchman. “Sajan’s daughter married Shyam against her father’s wishes. However, six years ago she died due to burn injuries in Bihar and Sajan had lodged a police complaint against Shyam alleging that he was responsible for his daughter’s death,” said a police officer.

When Shyam went to meet his father-in-law, a heated argument began over the past. When Shyam tried to leave, Sajan’s teenage sons blocked his path and their father attacked him with a heavy object. Shyam died later and the trio dumped his body 50 metres from their house. On Friday, the police identified his body.
