Mumbai civic body sends notices to PWD and railways for mosquito breeding spots

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday issued notices to the public works department (PWD) and the railways for mosquito breeding spots.

The PWD got a notice for ignoring several mosquito breeding spots at BDD chawls in Worli and Lower Parel. The railways has been issued three notices for breeding spots at its carriage repair workshop in Lower Parel.

Assistant commissioner of the G (south) ward Prashant Sapkale said, “Three notices have been issued to the railways and one to the PWD for the BDD chawls. If they do not comply with the notices, they can be prosecuted.” The PWD has been asked to seal depression on the terraces, where rain water accumulates, and the railways has been directed to remove roof gutters, clear scrap from the workshop from its Lower Parel workshop.

Sunil Udasi, CPRO, CR , said, “We have a nominated a medical officer to coordinate with the BMC on these issues, including mosquito breeding spots.”
