Mumbai cops scan CCTV footage, crack housebreaking case

Though the police could only partially identify the accused, they nabbed him after checking their records

The police recently solved a housebreaking theft case in which property worth Rs1.30 lakh was stolen from a house in Khar (West). The alleged thief was arrested after the police checked CCTV footage of the area.

According to the police, the theft took place on April 23 when the complainant, his wife and two guests who had come to visit the couple were asleep.

“The accused entered the house around 3am when everyone was asleep and stole mobile phones, iPad, jewelry and valuables worth Rs1.30 lakh. In the morning when the complainant realised there has been a theft at his residence, he approached the police and registered a formal complaint,” said an officer from Khar police station.

The officer said the police scrutinised the CCTV footage of the building and could partially identify the accused. “The accused entered the house from the kitchen. We were almost certain about the identify of the accused but his face was not completely clear in the footage. After checking his history in our records, we were certain about his identity. We arrested him from Santacruz and during interrogation he confessed to the crime,” he said.
