Mumbai man held for blackmailing lover of cash, jewellery worth ₹2 lakh

Mumbai city news: After telling her husband that she was being blackmailed, the two approached Sakinaka police and filed a complaint against the accused

The Sakinaka police arrested a 32-year man for allegedly blackmailing cash and gold ornaments from his neighbour’s wife. The police said the accused and the woman were having an affair for the past two years. The accused had clicked a few pictures of them getting physically intimate and used them to blackmail her.

Based on her complaint and our investigation, an FIR was filed against the accused and he was arrested. He was produced in court and remanded in police custody till June 10 for inquiry. (Getty Images)

According to the Sakinaka police, the accused is an interior designer. Initially, he took money from the woman under the pretext of expanding his business. But when she refused to give more money, he started blackmailing her by threatening to tell her husband about their affair. The woman and the man live in the same building, said an officer from Sakinaka police station.

“The victim panicked after the accused threatened to tell her husband about their affair. She gave him Rs50,000 and gold jewellery worth Rs1.5 lakh,” the officer said.

It was the woman’s husband who confronted her upon discovering their affair. After telling him that she was being blackmailed, the two approached Sakinaka police and filed a complaint against the accused.
