Mumbai police constable, ticket checker get into physical fight at Dadar station

Duo had a spat when the ticket checker asked the policeman to pay a fine; both have registered complaints of assault against each other

A ticket checker (TC) at Dadar railway station was allegedly assaulted by a police constable when he asked him to produce his ticket.

Ticket checker Dhananjay Kumar alleges he was punched in the face by constable Vilas Jagannath Pawar.

Both have registered police complaints against each other.

The incident took place at platform number 6 on the central line at Dadar station on Wednesday. According to TC Dhananjay Kumar, 31, when a man — later identified as Vilas Jagannath Pawar — stepped out of the first-class compartment of a Thane-CSMT train, he asked him to show his ticket or pass for inspection. The man said he was with the police and therefore allowed to travel free on the local train. “I told him that if he was permitted to travel for free, he must produce a pass or document that says so,” he said.

The TC alleges that the man got furious and started arguing. “I told him to calm down and pay the fine. When I said that, he slapped me. Then, he caught me by my shirt collar and punched me in the face. My nose started bleeding,” Kumar said. “Hearing the ruckus, my colleagues came and stopped the constable.”

“We have registered the case and are in the process of recording statements of both parties,” said an officer from Dadar GRP, who did not wish to be named.
