Unhappy with delay in Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) II projects, union railway minister Suresh Prabhu asked the state and railway officials to have better coordination especially when it comes to land acquisition required to complete these projects.
Prabhu was in the city to review the railway infrastructure projects and held a high-level meeting of state and Railways. This was held to push the pending suburban projects. Some of the MUTP II projects are Andheri-Goregaon harbour line extension, 5th and 6th line between Thane-Diva, Kurla-Parel 5th and 6th line, Mumbai-Central-Borivali 6th line.
Most of these projects are delayed due to inability of state to remove the encroachment from the government land. “This was a high-level review meeting of infrastructure projects attempted at bringing all concerned authorities on same platform so that we can discuss the issues affecting the progress of the infrastructure project,” said GC Agarwal, general manager, Western Railway.
The tweet by Central Railway chief public relation officer Narendra Patil also said minister of railways Suresh Prabhu asked the state and railway officials to expedite the projects on suburban section.
All the above infrastructure projects were aimed to enhance the passenger carrying capacity. However, due to delay in its completion and rapid increase in passenger growth the congestion in suburban trains and stations have increased which also leads to safety issue at times.
