Rain respite for Mumbai’s western suburbs, monsoon to arrive between June 8 and June 10

While the monsoon is expected to arrive in Mumbai between June 8-10, the city witnessed showers in the western suburbs of Andheri, Khar and Bandra on Thursday night.

Rains have touched the Kerala coast on Tuesday, marking its entry into the Indian mainland.

The weather bureau said the monsoon is likely to touch the Konkan coast, which Mumbai is a part of, between June 8 and 10. The weather system can be plus-minus four days from the predicted dates, the weather bureau said.

Data reveal there are 36 chronic spots in the city, followed by the western suburbs which have 22 and eight in the eastern suburbs.

Chronic spots are where water takes longer to recede in case of heavy rain. While the number of spots had come down to 55, the BMC has added 11 more to the list after the 2015 flooding, a senior civic official said.
