Senior citizen robbed of cash and jewellery worth ₹21.42L

A 71-year-old man was robbed of cash, US currency and jewellery after his bag was snatched by two unidentified men in Kandivli (West) on Monday. The police are in the process of identifying the suspects.

According to the Kandivli police, the incident took place around 11.15 am when the complainant was walking near a bank in Mahavir Nagar. He had just withdrawn cash and valuables at the time and was carrying Rs35,000 in Indian currency, $10,000 and diamond-studded platinum jewellery.

He was also carrying his daughter’s mangalsutra and platinum rings from the bank’s locker, said officials. The jewellery is estimated to be worth Rs21.42 lakh.

“Two men on a motorbike stopped next to him and snatched his bag. We have registered a case of robbery against the unidentified duo,” said Mukund Pawar, senior inspector at Kandivli police station.

While the accused managed to flee, the police said they are scanning footage of the CCTV cameras in the vicinity to see if they can find out more.
