Software glitch causes 1-hour delay at Mumbai airport

Around 50 departing flights from 5.30pm to 7.30pm were delayed due to the cascading effect

Flights at Mumbai airport were delayed for about an hour on Tuesday after a glitch in the ticketing software affected work at the check-in counters. Both domestic and international flights were affected.

Passengers at the airport complained of being stranded at the check-in counter. “Boarding passes are being issued manually, slowing down the process,” said a Delhi-bound passenger.

According to sources from the airport, around 50 departing flights from 5.30pm to 7.30pm were delayed due to the cascading effect.

Another passenger said they he was not able to get their flight updates as the display boards at the airport were not displaying any information.

The spokesperson of the airport operator, Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL), said the system network encountered an issue at 4.45pm and resolved it by 5.50pm. Airlines, however, reported that the system was back to normal at 7pm.

MIAL released a statement in the evening, saying they regretted the inconvenience caused to passengers and added extra manpower to look into essential operational measures and keep things running smoothly.
