Thief attacks 72-year-old ayurvedic doctor at work

Police officials believe that the accused followed Badshah and monitored the area before attacking the senior citizen

A 72-year-old ayurvedic doctor was attacked at her South Mumbai-based office by an unidentified person on Tuesday afternoon. The accused entered her office on the pretext of being a carpenter and fled with her bag after attacking her.

According to police officials, the victim, Dr Madhukanta Nandkishor Badshah, is a resident of Breach Candy. She sustained a head injury after the attack. The incident took place inside her clinic on the third floor of Badshah Apartment, 400m from the main Pydhonie police station.

In her statement, Badshah told the police that she left her residence in the morning, reported to a court in South Mumbai for work, and later went to the Central Bank of India before reaching her office. Police officials believe that the accused followed Badshah and monitored the area before attacking the senior citizen.

“Badshah stays in Breach Candy along with her 102-year-old mother. She was alone when the incident took place. While she was entering the clinic, the accused approached her from behind and said he was a carpenter and that someone from the office had called him,” said an officer from Pydhonie police station requesting anonymity.

“While leaving, the accused grabbed her bag. As she didn’t let go of it, he pushed her and hit her on her head. The bag contained valuables worth Rs8,000,” said an officer.

The accused has been booked under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrong­ful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code. Police officials have formed teams to track him.
