In the first accident, Muktar Ansari, 24, a resident of Kopar Khairane, fell from a train at 9.20am. He suffered severe injuries to different parts of his body and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The second incident took place around 10am. An unknown person fell from another train. He too was declared dead in a city hospital.

Another fatality occurred between Govandi and Chembur at 9.30pm. Gopal Kashi, 20, a resident of Chembur, fell from a train and later died in a hospital.

“Most of such incidents take place as trains are crowded during the peak hours and people cannot stand properly inside the compartments. However, the bigger issue is that many youngsters perform stunts in trains. At times they lose balance and fall down,” said one GRP official.

According to railway sources, 252 people died in the satellite city while crossing railway tracks or falling from trains in 2015 compared to 205 in 2014.

Last year, the Panvel GRP registered 71 fatal accidents against 66 cases in 2014. Likewise, the Vashi GRP recorded 181 fatal accidents in 2015 against 139 cases in 2014.
