Tree fall holds traffic for three hours in Mumbai suburb

Commuters on the Kalyan-Waldhuni stretch were stuck in a harrowing three-hour-long traffic jam late on Wednesday after a huge tree fell on a parked car.

Traffic police said the car’s driver and a few motorists suffered minor injuries, while the vehicle was damaged. “The huge tree suddenly fell on a car. The driver and other motorists were hurt,” said a traffic police official, who did not wish to be identified.

The Kalyan -Waldhuni bridge starts from Subhash Chowk and ends at Ambedkar Chowk in Kalyan (West). It connects Kalyan to Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Badlapur.

The huge tree blocked the route for about three hours.

Traffic at Murbad Road, Syndicate, Birla College Road in Kalyan (West) and the Kalyan station road was stalled for hours owing to the blocked route. “We informed fire officials of the incident. They moved the tree away from the bridge,” added the officer.

Several trees have been uprooted across Kalyan and Dombivli this month, owing to the heavy rain.
