Vajpayee memorial in Mumbai soon, announces CM Fadnavis

An urn containing former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes was brought from Delhi to Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon by Maharashtra BJP president Raosaheb Danve. The ashes are to be immersed across 11 rivers in the state.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced that the state would build a “befitting memorial” of late BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Mumbai.

Fadnavis was speaking at a meeting held at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point, organised by the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to pay homage to the departed leader.

Fadnavis, in his address, said, “Atalji’s supreme priority was the nation. When it came to national issues he didn’t think about the ruling party or the opposition. He had a following from across political parties and ideologies.”

An urn containing Vajpayee’s ashes was brought from Delhi to Mumbai in the afternoon by state party president Raosaheb Danve. The ashes are to be immersed across 11 rivers in the state.

The meeting at NCPA was attended by the senior brass of the state BJP.

Vajpayee, the first non-Congress leader to serve a full term as prime minister, died on August 16 at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
