Mumbai city news: The decision to stop the free WiFi service completely has left passengers fuming

If you planned on using the free WiFi on-board the Tejas Express to access social media or watch movies, tough luck. The Central Railway abruptly stopped its service on Wednesday — a month after it was launched.

Passengers had complained of poor WiFi connectivity on the much-hyped train than runs between Mumbai and Goa. However, the decision to stop the service completely has left them fuming, said sources.

The Tejas Express was the second Indian Railways train to introduce on-board WiFi, after the Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express.

Before the Tejas Express was flagged off by railway minister Suresh Prabhu on May 21, CR authorities had announced that the train would have free WiFi and other unique facilities, such as automatic doors and infotainment systems.

Though passengers were assured that the WiFi service would be available across the entire train, it was limited to the executive coach. Now, sources said the WiFi on Tejas was functional till Tuesday. However, the service provider stopped it as CR did not opt to renew the service.

CR chief spokesperson Sunil Udashi, however, said the WiFi had not been stopped.
