MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Coastal Road Project is likely to miss the October 1 deadline, when they planned to start work.

While the BMC has shortened the length of the project, senior civic officials said the proposal will now be sent to the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) for fresh approvals, thus delaying the procedure.
The BMC had given a presentation to the MCZMA in January. The proposal was sent to the Ministry of Environment and Forests. It was after this the civic body decided to start the tunnel from Princess Street flyover, instead of Nariman point, reducing the length.
A civic official said, “The new proposals will have to be submitted to MCZMA according to protocol and it is after their approvals, that project will be submitted to the central ministry for its final nod.”
