Fewer students opt for courses in state’s ITIs
MUMBAI: The delay in admissions to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) could be the reason that fewer students are opting for courses this year.
MUMBAI: The delay in admissions to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) could be the reason that fewer students are opting for courses this year.

After a two-week delay in registrations for admissions to ITIs in the state, admissions finally took off during the last week of June.
A month later, following two rounds of admissions, barely 64,535 of the 1.42 lakh students who were allotted seats have confirmed their admission.
“ITI admissions took so long to kick off in the first place that I won’t be surprised if many aspirants have confirmed admissions in junior colleges instead. Students were very anxious about getting admissions at all, and must have made back-up plans,” said DW Patne, secretary of the Association of Non-Government ITIs in the state.
“The fact that 3 lakh students registered for 1.32 lakh available seats shows that there is immense demand for these seats but the delay has surely affected the final outcome of the number of students who are confirming admissions,” said the principal of an institute in Bandra, adding that while the response was still better in the first round of admissions, the second round saw very few takers.
