MUMBAI: A major fire broke out on Saturday around 11 pm at Crompton Greaves’ office in Kanjurmarg (East). While there were no injuries or casualties reported, one of the fire officers suffered breathing problems due to heavy smoke.

The officer was treated and allowed to go home by doctors. The fire brigade took over three and a half hours to douse the fire after using about nine fire engines and six water tankers. The fire was initially ranked a number 2 fire call (medium fire), but while trying to douse it, the fire brigade officials said it was number 3 — that is considered a major fire. According to fire officials, the fire was confined to the first floor of a three-storey structure with an area of around 30,000 square feet.

What caused the fire has not yet been ascertained but investigation into it is underway, claimed officials from the fire brigade.
