NAVI MUMBAI: A 27-year-old died while another was injured after being hit by a car of a Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) official on Sunday night. The police arrested the 34-year-old driver, who fled after the accident, on Monday evening.

The police said that the NMMC had issued the car to Jaywant Sutar, leader of the house, a few years ago. The arrested accused, Abhijeet Umbarkar, worked on a contract basis for Sutar. Umbarkar was alone in the car when the accident took place, a senior police officer said.
The victim has been identified as Adil Mukadam, 27, a resident of Seawoods. He was working in a hardware store in Dubai and had come home for three months. Hari Yadav, 25, who works in a garage in the same area, was injured in the incident.
