MUMBAI: Heavy rain delayed flights at Mumbai’s airport on Saturday morning. Airport records showed that arrivals and departures were running late by up to 25 minutes.

A Mumbai airport spokesperson confirmed the delays but said that none of the flights were diverted or cancelled.
Although runway visibility was above 800 metres, and thus within the safe range, officials manning air traffic said that short bouts of heavy rain triggered the delays. “Sometimes pilots are unable to see the runway for a few seconds when it is pouring. Such instances disrupt the traffic flow and create a cascading effect on the schedule,” said a senior air traffic control (ATC) official.
Some airlines warned fliers about the delays.
Jet Airways tweeted informing its passengers of delays of up to 30 minutes on flights in and out of Mumbai, while budget carrier SpiceJet asked passengers to check the status of their flights before leaving for the airport.
