1,100 students vie for 60 mass media seats

About 1,100 students took the entrance test for the 60 seats available in St Xavier’s College’s autonomous mass media (BMM) course on Tuesday.

The number of applications has almost doubled from last year. This is the first year that the college is holding an entrance test for the course.

“From the Lokpal Bill to pop singers in America, the paper had such diverse questions, I had hardly prepared for,” said Nidhi Shah, 19, who flew down from Gujarat to take the test. “Had there been a more well-structured syllabus enlisted before, we would have known exactly what to prepare for the test,” added Shah, who finished the paper well before the two-hour time limit.

The entrance test comprised several subjects including general knowledge, current affairs, data interpretation, English language skills, critical analysis and creative thinking.

“We tried to include questions from a wide range of subjects, ideal to test the students’ aptitudes,” said Madhuri Raijada, BMM coordinator, St Xavier’s College.

Ketki Mehta, 17, a student of SIES College, found the test interesting. “The questions tested my analytical skills, and for once, I didn’t have to write long answers,” she said.
