10,000 citizens to march against corruption

Peeved with the growing instances of corruption in the country, on January 30, thousands of people will be congregating in 60 cities across India to partake in the 'India March Against Corruption'.

In Mumbai, more than 10,000 people from different walks of life are expected to attend the march at Azad Maidan from 4pm to 6pm.

"Corruption in India is growing in leaps and bounds. But, there is no way of ending it, as our law system is lax. So, to find a solution to this, some of us came together and drafted the Jan Lokpal Bill. Through this march, we will persuade the government to enact it," Arvind Kejriwal, former Indian Revenue Services official, said.

The march will be held in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Bhopal Jaipur, Chandigarh, Kanpur, Pune, among other cities.

The main persons who drafted the Bill are Kiran Bedi, justice Santosh Hegde, renowned advocate Prashant Bhushan, former chief election commissioner JM Lyngdoh and Arvind Kejriwal former income tax commissioner.

"We are spreading awareness by means of SMSes and social networking sites. We are also requesting as many people as possible to visit the website - www.indiaagainstcorruption.org and learn more about the Bill," said Mayank Gandhi, founder of Jagrut Nagrik Manch.

The Art of Living Foundation, too, has extended its support to the movement. "More than 2,000 members from our organisation will be participating," said Darshak Hathi, international director, Art of Living.

Moreover, various NGOs in the city, citizen forums groups and social institutions too will be participating in the march.
