Bureaucrats in the state have been facing flak from activists, including veteran activist Anna Hazare who has repeatedly said bureaucrats disgraced by the Adarsh scam should be sacked.

Activists in the state have been demanding that bureaucrats whose names have been linked to the scam, including state information commissioner Ramanand Tiwari, should step down or be sacked.

When contacted, chief secretary JP Dange pointed to the Central government.

“When permission to prosecute IAS officials is demanded, even the Centre has to agree. Hence, blaming the state alone for these refusals is unfair,” Dange said.

An ACB official, however, said there were certain departments that were more reluctant than others.

“Generally, the state government as a whole doesn’t really oppose our requests to prosecute their officials. But, there are certain departments, which consistently delay giving us the nod to prosecute non-IAS officials from their department. Whether this is due to inefficiency or intentional delay is not clear.”
