Saha, 33, has decided that her second child will be born on 11/11/11. “It is quite a unique date. It comes once in a century. My in-laws also told me that I should try to have my baby on this date,” said Saha.

The Navi Mumbai resident was advised a caesarean delivery on November 15, but she requested her gynaecologist, Dr Renuka Suchak, to conduct the surgery on November 11.

Saha’s in-laws consulted astrologers too. “The astrologers have said I should deliver at 3 pm on Friday,” said Saha, who has an eight-year-old daughter. Suchak has another patient who will be delivering twins on Friday.

Gynaecologists say that last year too, several patients had planned their deliveries on 10/10/10.

Astrologists, however, are divided on whether the date is auspicious. Numerologist Hemant Surve said: “There is no scientific reasoning to explain the significance of this date. It also falls on a Friday, which is considered rare. It could be lucky.”

Haresh Nathani, an astrologist based in Sion, said: “This date is not auspicious. It is a day that involves the moon and Saturn. This causes depression.”

However, doctors said some patients are wary of the palindrome date, believing it to be inauspicious.

“A couple of my clients had booked the date, but they later consulted astrologists and requested me to postpone the delivery saying it is not a good day,” said Dr Nandita Palshetkar, in-vitro fertilisation specialist at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra.
