12 escape from correction home in Nashik by scaling wall

However, officers from the Nashik police said two of them had been traced at Nigdi, Pune, and they were likely to be brought back to the correction home.

Officials of the Sarkarwada police station in Nashik said the incident took place at 3.30am, when the 12 juveniles cut the iron rods of their barracks using hacksaw blades and then opened the doors using keys. “They came near the wall and formed human pyramids to climb up. When one of them got to the top of the wall, he pulled up the others using bed sheets,” said RV Shegar, assistant police inspector.

While eight of the minors have cases registered against them in Pune, three are from Satara and one is from Mumbai. According to sources, two of the juveniles have cases of robbery against them, while others were at the correction home for cases of extortion, trespassing and molestation. “One of the juveniles from Pune even has a case of murder against him,” said MK Somavanshi, senior police inspector

Meanwhile, the prisons department has ordered an internal inquiry into the matter. Additional director general (ADG) Prisons, BK Upadhyay, said two prison staff have been suspended and Rajendra Dhamane, deputy inspector general, prisons, will be conducting an inquiry into the lapses.
