The Vanrai police have not found a suicide note and are yet to ascertain why the teenager took her own life.

According to the police, Hasina Shaikh lived in the Squatters’ Colony on the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road with her grandmother. She hanged herself from the ceiling fan using a dupatta at around 4pm, the police said.

“The neighbours saw the door wide open and found Shaikh hanging after which they brought her down and informed the main police control,” said an officer from Vanrai police station.

Shaikh was taken to Bhagwati hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The neighbours, in their statement to the police, said she was known for her bad temper. She was not enrolled in a school. Her father, who works at a garage, had married twice and lives with his second wife in the same locality.
