There are as many as 20 B-town personalities in the list of top 100 taxpayers in Mumbai this year. The number for the current financial year is 100% more than the average number of Bollywood personalities figuring in the top 100 list in earlier years.

The last quarter of the advance tax was paid on March 15. Advance tax is paid in four quarters—in June, September, December and March.

“Till the previous year, on an average, around 10 B-town personalities figured among the top 100 taxpayers,” said an I-T official.

He said that the 100% rise shows that not only is the filmmaking budget climbing, but the income graph of film personalities is also rising sharply. “Films today earn hundreds of crores of rupees. This translates into high income for filmmakers and actors,” the official said.

He said that besides this, growing tax compliance has also resulted in big contributions from Bollywood. The official said that next year there may be more Bollywood personalities in the top 100 list, considering the amount of money films make.

I-T officials said though Amitabh Bachchan paid more tax than the Khan duo in the last quarter of the advance tax, they surpassed him when it came to payment in the entire year.

Among the women actors, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra figure on the list.

Apart from film personalities, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s name is also in the top 100 list.
