A 25-year-old woman jumped off the fourth floor of a building in Thane allegedly because of dowry harassment. The family of Nikita Panjwani, a resident of Raheja Complex in Wagle Estate, said she committed suicide after incessant dowry demands from her husband and in-laws.

Nikita’s husband Vicky Panjwani, 27, mother-in-law Sangeeta Panjwani, 47, and sister-in-law Reshma Panjwani, 29, were arrested by the Wagle Estate police station on Sunday.
Nikita and Vicky got married around 11 months ago. While Vicky runs a lassi shop, Nikita was a housewife.
“Nikita jumped from the balcony of their fourth floor flat on Saturday evening. She was rushed to a private hospital, where she passed away. Though no suicide note was found, her family has filed a complaint saying she had been continuously harassed by her in-laws for money.
Soon after the marriage, her in-laws started demanding money and would constantly nag her about her cooking skills. Tired of the constant harassment, she committed suicide. We have booked her husband and in-laws for dowry harassment,” said police inspector SS Awhad.
Nikita’s husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law were produced in court and have been remanded in police custody till Tuesday.
