Harsh Hariani, who scored 517 out of 550 marks and got into his second preference college, SIES in Matunga, is now waiting the release of the second general list on Thursday. “We have just been waiting all this while for the next list to come out and are feeling hopeful,” said his mother Padmini, on Wednesday evening. The first list at Ruia closed at 521 marks.
Given the number of vacancies in the science stream in prestigious colleges, principals anticipate that the cut-offs will drop, though not by much. “There are still so many science seats left so the cut-offs will drop the most in science, by about two or three percentage points at most,” said Kirti Narain, principal of Jai Hind college at Churchgate.
At the end of the first round of admissions, coveted colleges such as Sathaye, Jai Hind and Ruparel had between 25 and 60 per cent of their seats vacant in the science stream. “There is bound to be a fall in the cut-offs on the second list,” said RK Pagdhare, vice principal of D.G Ruparel College in Matunga. “Maybe about six to seven marks for the science stream and two to three marks for arts and commerce.”
With the second list, students will also get the option of getting into more preferred colleges. Students have one chance of moving to a college of higher preference if they are allotted one in a subsequent list.

{{/usCountry}}“Students would have taken provisional admissions after the first list so as to avail of the betterment option,” said Manju Nichani, principal of KC College at Churchgate. “With the second list there is bound to be circulation of students as they may get into a higher preference college and opt for that.”The second general merit list will be declared on Thursday at 5 pm. Students can check their status online at fyjc.org.in or at the respective colleges. Those who make it to the list will have to pay their fees on Friday, Saturday and Monday.
