The Fernandes family had demanded an inquiry Reuben's death, alleging medical negligance. Reuben was admitted to a private hospital in Andheri. Reuben's brother Benjamin had demanded an inquiry into both the blood bank reports and the procedures adopted by the hospital in his brother's case.

"Reuben who was in the hospital for 11 days after the stabbing was getting better and even ready to walk after a week. But, suddenly, his situation deteriorated and his internal bleeding which had stopped started again," Benjamin told the Hindustan Times. He had requested the health minister Suresh Shetty to conduct an inquiry into the matter.

Senior health department officials said following Benjamin's request, two preliminary reports were produced - one was of the blood sent by blood banks and the other of procedures adopted by the hospital.

"There is some issue with the blood report, so we have decided to rope in three doctors from government hospitals who will study it and give their opinion. As far as the hospital is concerned, things seem clear.

However, we have given the family open access to the doctors at the hospital to do their own probe," Shetty told HT, refusing to disclose details of the blood bank report.

Keenan Santos and Rueben Fernandes were stabbed to death in a street-fight following an alleged act of sexual harassment.
