312 pothole areas left, most in the western suburbs

Of the 312, 186 are in the western suburbs alone, the eastern suburbs have 96 locations, while the island city has just 36 locations.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had detected a total of 6,792 pothole locations across the 1,900 km of civic roads in the city in mid-July, of which it said it has attended to 6,480.

After spending the entire year’s budget of Rs 40 crore for filling potholes and road repairs in four months, last week the BMC sanctioned an additional Rs 17.38 crore. “To fill all potholes, the BMC has sanctioned Rs 17.38 crore and distributed it to wards that have demanded more funds,” said Satish Badwe, chief engineer, (roads), BMC.

As the western suburbs have the maximum number of damaged roads, Rs 10.51 crore was allocated there, with Rs 2.5 crore – the maximum - sanctioned to the Malad ward.
