Tasneem’s is the fifth dengue-related death in the city.

Her mother, Shakila, the sole survivor of the family of three from Malwani, is also being treated for dengue. Her condition is reported to be stable. Shakila got herself discharged from Nair hospital to attend her daughter’s funeral.

Doctors at Nair hospital said Tasneem was brought there in a critical condition. “Apart from her low platelet count, her liver was affected. Her condition remained critical throughout,” a doctor said.

The four-year-old passed away around 6am. Doctors said she died of pulmonary haemorrhage, a result of dengue fever.

After Tariq Jafari passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, both Shakila and Tasneem, admitted there too, had been shifted to Nair hospital.

Jafari’s neighbours said many people in the locality have been diagnosed with dengue over the past week. “I know of five people who have dengue. The day Tariq died, my relative, Arshiya Wahaf, was admitted to Bhagwati hospital,” said Akhtar Kazi, a resident of Mhada Colony in Malwani. Wahaf has been discharged.
