6-year-old missing for 3 days, police have no leads yet

A six-year-old boy went missing from his building at Mahavir Nagar in Kandivli west on Wednesday. The police have not found any leads in the case. Karnit Shah, a resident of Parnik Gardens, was playing in his building compound around 7.30pm on Wednesday before he went missing.

The police fear the boy has been kidnapped by a man, identified only as Sunny, who was in the society distributing chocolates to children after Holi. The police said ever since Karnit went missing, Sunny has not been seen either.

“We are trying to track down Sunny. We have prepared sketches based on the description given by people who have seen Sunny and have circulated them,” said LG Shinde, assistant police inspector of Kandivli police station.

The family said Karnit’s elder sister Yuti, 9, came down to take Karnit home around 7.30pm when he said he wanted to play for 10 more minutes.

“Yuti had just recovered from chickenpox and hence she decided to go home and come back later. When she came down 15 minutes later, she could not find her brother,” said Manish Shah, Karnit’s paternal uncle.

Since it has been over three days since Karnit went missing, the police have registered a kidnapping case against an unidentified person. The family has not received any ransom call.

The Kandivli police have circulated photographs of the child to every police station in the city. The police are also questioning autorickshaw drivers because they think there is a possibility that a stranger abducted the boy and hired an rickshaw.
