“I will not succumb to such pressure tactics. This is sheer cowardice,” said Chudasama. “The legacy of the banner will continue.”

His daughter and BJP spokesperson Shaina NC wrote an open letter to the citizens of Mumbai saying she and her father did not expect any apology, but the vandals and their party should apologise to Mumbaiites.

For more than 40 years, Chudasama has been displaying banners outside his Soona Mahal office at Marine Drive, with tongue-in-cheek comments on current issues.

However, the MNS workers attacked the place on Wednesday after he put up by a banner that said, ‘Promoting Marathi welcome, diktat not welcome’.

“My father’s banners have always been succinct and relevant, highlighting issues that require debate. They are a part of Mumbai’s heritage and legacy,” said Shaina in her letter.

Saying she did not expect an apology, Shaina said, “The perpetrators of the crime are welcome to agitate, protest, shout slogans and engage in a healthy debate. However, vandalism and brute force is unacceptable.”
