Accused used Facebook, email, BBM to distribute leaked papers

Each student involved in the leak tried to sell the paper to others to recover what he or she paid for it, say cops.

Students used social networking platforms, mobile phone applications and emails to distribute the leaked question papers, according to crime branch officials. This helped them a great deal in cracking the case, they said.

“The students posted the leaked papers on the social networking site Facebook. They also used email, Blackberry messenger and several such social networking applications to distribute the papers,” said joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy.

Roy said many students were involved in the case and every one tried to recover the money s/he had spent on purchasing the leaked paper by selling the paper. “We will consider the role of each person carefully. After investigations, we will decide who are to be made accused and who witnesses,” he said.

The police are also probing whether the chief paper setter from whom one of the accused got the paper has any role in the case. They have recovered Rs 40,000 in cash, a mobile, and the hard disk of a computer from one of the accused Sachin Lad, already arrested in the case. The hard disk will be sent to the forensic lab at Kalina for further analysis.
