After the state’s urban development department and environment ministry, it is now the turn of the defence ministry to admit that certain important documents (noting sheets) pertaining to the controversial Adarsh society have gone missing from its offices.
Defence ministry counsel Dhiren Shah on Tuesday, admitted to the two member of the Adarsh commission that noting sheet (sheet that has remarks of senior defence officials) attached to internal military correspondence on the Adarsh case was “unavailable’’.
Shah had been asked to submit noting sheet of a April 5, 2000 letter written by the then Colonel SS Jog to the city collector that was being treated as a no objection certificate from the Army to allot the prime plot to Adarsh society.
Shah later told HT, “It is possible that all the noting sheets of internal correspondence on the Adarsh matter have gone missing. We have not been able to find anything.’’
This letter was in response to a March 29, 2000 letter from the city collector asking defence NOC for allotting land to the society.
Major General Jog, who is being cross examined before the commission had said that he had written this letter on direction of his then superior, Major General AR Kumar (a member of the society). In his defense Jog said he had told Kumar that he was not competent authority to issue NOC but his suggestion were shot down. This could have ostensibly been recorded in the noting sheet.

{{/usCountry}}He added that it was standard procedure that such internal correspondence in the military had noting sheets attached to it, which recorded the remarks of the superior officers.
Dipan Merchant, the counsel for the commission said none of the five files submitted by the defense ministry and Army had noting sheets attached to them.
