On Sunday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will display its ability to strike with precision during night for the first time in what is scheduled to be a mammoth firepower demonstration at the Chanan Air-to-Air Range in Pokhran.

Codenamed ‘Vayu Shakti — 2010’, close to a hundred aircraft, including those on standby in air and on ground, will participate in the exercise showcasing their operational capabilities during the day, dusk and night.
IAF shares with HT pictures of dress rehearsal of Operation Vayu Shakti — the air force’s annual air show. The major attraction of the event would be the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS), which will monitor the entire exercise.
Apart from it, almost the entire inventory of IAF, including its frontline fighter Su-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, Jaguar, Mig-21 and Mig-29 will be on display. The transport aircraft include AN-32, Embraer and IL-76, while Mi-17 4 and Mi-35 attack helicopters will constitute the rotary wing ingredients.
The exercise will also feature Garuda conducting drills of para-drop and troop insertion behind enemy lines.
The exercise will see Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju and the service chiefs participating.
