Assistant commissioner of police (DN Nagar division) Narsingh Sherkhane said, "The government had already accepted their demand earlier. It was just that they were formally given a letter yesterday."

Benjamin Fernandes, Reuben's brother said, "We received a letter wherein we were assured that three doctors from the Thane hospital will be conducting a medical inquiry."

Benjamin added that they had written to the police asking for an independent doctor on the panel. The family members had earlier threatened to go on a fast if the inquiry was not ordered.

Benjamin had earlier said that Reuben was recovering quite well. However, after that meeting four policemen on October 30, his condition began deteriorating and he passed away the next day.

Keenan Santos and Reuben were allegedly murdered by Jitendra Rana and his three accomplices on October 20.

While Keenan died on the spot, Reuben died on October 31.
