At 12.6°C, Mumbaiites feel the chill on season’s coldest day

The minimum temperature recorded at Colaba was 17.1 degrees Celsius, which was 2.4 degrees below normal. According to the weathermen, the chill in the air is here to stay for a while though temperatures will not drop further in the next 48 hours.

“The western disturbance that facilitates flow of cold northerly winds into the city is moving towards the east. As the cold wave intensified in the north, chilly conditions prevailed in Mumbai too. Our forecast shows that the temperatures would gradually climb back to normal,” said VK Rajeev, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The maximum temperature at Colaba and Santacruz was 28.5 degrees Celsius and 29.2 degrees Celsius respectively. Elsewhere in the state, Nashik at 6.4 degrees Celsius was the coldest.

According to the IMD’s forecast on Friday, the minimum temperature in the city on Saturday will be 13 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to be 28 degrees Celsius.
