"I have been feeling that I have stopped adding value to the job. I also had an angioplasty last month so would like to take it easy,'' said Chatterjee, adding that he had not taken up any private sector job.

A 1982 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, Chatterjee was credited for providing boost to affordable housing by making available low-cost homes through the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority during his stint as the vice-president of the authority.

Chatterjee said he had preferred the pace of field posting to his stint in Mantralaya, where overall policy making was a slow and tedious process.

However, before quitting, Chatterjee is planning to make sure that the long pending proposal to set up a housing regulatory authority gets a cabinet nod.

Khan, who had sought retirement on April 8, told the Hindustan Times: "I put in my papers giving three months' notice. It's for personal reasons and I have not thought of future assignments or offers.''

Khan had a successful stint in the industries department, medical education and the ministry of welfare with the government of India in 32 years of service.

Khan is credited for the state's success with special economic zones and mega investments besides reforms like tying up of government industrial training institutes with companies for placements or offering 12.5% developed land as compensation to project affected in industrial projects.

At present, Khan has been working on the new industrial policy of the state.
