Bail denied to 9 Malegaon accused

A designated MCOCA court on Tuesday declined bail to nine accused in September 2006 Malegaon bomb blasts case and rejected their pleas on the ground of the alleged confession made by Swami Aseemanand, admitting role of Hindu terrorists behind the four blasts.

Special MCOCA judge YD Shinde rejected the bail applications of all the nine accused saying those could not be considered at this stage. The detailed order is expected to come out in a day or two.

Advocate Jalil Ahmed representing some of the accused said they will be approaching the Bombay HC against the rejection of their bail plea even as the CBI has undertaken re-investigation into the case and had obtained permission to interrogate one of the alleged terrorists, Sudhakar Dhar Dwivedi, arrested in connection with September 2008 Malegaon blasts.

The Maharashtra ATS had arrested the nine persons between October 22 and December 16, 2006 claiming the four blasts was handy work of the alleged members of banned SIMI. The ATS completed its investigation and filed charge-sheet against the nine alleged SIMI members on December 21, 2006, a fortnight before Maharashtra government transferred the investigation to the CBI.
