Bal Thackeray in ICU, docs say he is fine

Doctors attending to Thackeray said he complained of breathlessness and acute constipation, but he was doing fine. “He is in the ICU for observation and will be soon shifted to a room,” said a source from the hospital. Thackeray is expected to undergo a battery of tests including a CT scan. He was hospitalised in May this year with similar ailments.

Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi, who met Thackeray at the hospital, insisted that the Sena chief was there for a routine check-up. “He will be out of the hospital in about 2-3 days,” said Joshi.

Thackeray has a history of suffering from chronic pulmonary obstructive disease (COPD), a lung disease that leads to difficulty in breathing, and ischemic heart disease, which results in lowered blood supply to the heart.

Thackeray’s son Uddhav, executive president of Shiv Sena, was discharged from Lilavati on Monday after undergoing angioplasty.
