Ailing Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s condition was described as 'serious' late on Wednesday night, sources said.

The 86-year-old was in coma and on life support system, the sources said.
He was not able to breathe on his own and was on the bypass machine, a non-invasive machine that takes over the breathing and circulatory functions temporarily.
Thackeray’s kidney functions also failed, said doctors.
People started gathering in large numbers outside Matoshri, the Thackeray clan home in Mumbai’s Bandra east, leading police to set up barricades.
Since the past few days, a team of four to five doctors from Lilavati Hospital have been checking on him at Matoshri at least thrice a day.
Two days ago, Thackeray, in a personalised edit in Saamna, the party mouthpiece, had declared that his health was poor, but he was not put on ventilator, as claimed by a section of the media.
