For the second time in five days, the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) questioned Sameer Bhujbal, the nephew of NCP leader and former PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal. The questioning is part of an open inquiry into allegations of corruption against the family.

Chhagan Bhujbal is also likely to be questioned, sources said.

On Tuesday, Sameer was questioned for three-and-a-half hours. Pankaj, Chhagan Bhujbal’s son, is likely to appear for questioning on Wednesday.

“The questions are put forth based on the allegations in the PIL,” said Praveen Dixit, director general of police, ACB, referring to the PILs filed in the high court by Kirit Somaiya from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party leader Anjali Damania.

Chhagan Bhujbal is facing a string of corruption allegations (see box), including one in the redevelopment of Maharashtra Sadan, the state guest house in the New Delhi. While the Bhujbals have denied the allegations, a special investigating team (SIT) has been formed to probe them.

However, with just four days to go, Sameer is the only one who has appeared before the ACB so far. “We will bring the developments to the court’s notice,” said Dixit.

While Sameer was questioned for three hours on Friday too, Pankaj, who has been summoned, is yet to appear for questioning.
