In a bid to arrest increasing cases of Malria in the city, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has directed builders to appoint a doctor for medical check up of migrant workers at construction sites.

"BMC will ask builders to appoint a doctor wherever development work or construction activity is being undertaken. These doctors will be asked to check migrant workers per day per hour at the site," Municipal Commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya said.

"Also, the BMC's disaster management helpline number 108 will assist people by taking down their complaints and suggestions," Kshatriya said.

Mumbai has about 2,500 construction sites with 2.5 lakh labourers working on them. "We will issue health cards from tomorrow so that we can keep track of them as they always live in groups and are on the move," Kshatriya said.

BMC also informed that 20,000 mosquito nets will be distributed through a private company in slum areas.
