With the development plan (DP) and the development control regulations (DCR) 2034 in the public domain for almost a year now, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) now aims at releasing the draft DP 2034 by month end.
The civic body published chapters of the DCR and invited suggestions and objections from citizens to complete the revision process. However, only 58 suggestions-objections have been received so far. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis last April ordered the revision of the DP 2034 last February following public outcry. To the dismay of the citizens, the revision team has taken more than a year to get the revised draft ready.
With the civic body nearing the May 31 deadline for the final extension given by the state government, the civic officials said they are now working on the last phase of the revision process. The process was carried out in four phases - correction of designations marked wrongly in the last February released draft, corrections of DP roads, reviewing and changing controversial concepts of DCR and reviewing the objections received on various reservations.
Standing committee chairman Yashodhar Phanse on Wednesday informed the committee members that the DP 2034 is likely to be released on May 27 in the general body meeting of the civic corporators. “The DP will be explained and presented in the general body meeting and a four-day session will be held on this,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}“We are finalising the DCR and genuine suggestions-objections by the citizens will be considered,” said civic officials. Of the 58 suggestions-objections, civic officials have ruled out even considering 28 . The civic body has received suggestions on the increase in the height of the building for being called a high rise and heritage structure owners not being incentivised even this time, along with objections on the powers of the commissioner in the DCR.
A civic official, on request of anonymity, said, “We will consider only the genuine suggestions as some of them are based on concepts of FSI - we have not even put out the FSI chapter in the public domain yet.”
