The structure, spread over 4,000 sq ft, was built without permission and was found to be violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.

“The court had given a stay on the demolition, which has now been vacated,” said Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Vijay Balamwar, P-North ward.

The bungalow was built more than five years ago and was used for film and television shoots.

The BMC razed other illegal structures in Bandra (East). The structures are suspected to have been built with funds from the underworld.

After being rapped by the Bombay High Court for not acting on illegal structures mushrooming in the city, the BMC is taking up demolition drives across the city.

“We will survey the area for illegal structures which are violating the CRZ norms and then will take action against them,” added Balamwar. The Bandra structure is being razed following a high court order.

“We have begun the demolition drive,” a civic official from H-east ward office said, requesting anonymity.

On Friday, the BMC started a week-long drive to demolition illegal mezzanine floors at Laxmi Industrial estate, Andheri.

There are more than 300 illegal structures in the estate.
