The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wants children to take up the cause of water conservation.

With summer vacations on, the BMC is asking children to help them monitor water consumption by their family and housing societies.
These ‘water monitors’ will maintain a ‘report card’, in which they would mention where and how their family wastes water and suggest corrective steps.
“We want to make the younger generation aware of the importance of using water sparingly,” said Mayor Shraddha Jadhav.
Children will maintain the reports for a month, document leaks and urge their parents to adopt conservation methods.
“Even small things, such as convincing friends and family to give up showers and use buckets for bathing, will help save a lot of water,” said Jadhav.
If leaks are detected, the children can register a complaint with the civic water helpline by dialling ‘108’. Each proactive step will earn them points.
To register for the task, the children have to fill a registration form available with the BMC.
At the end of the month, the BMC will evaluate the report cards and the 10 best performances will be given certificates by the mayor.
