Reddy’s boss Amar Jadhav allegedly procured a SIM [Subscriber Identity Module] card using Reddy’s driving licence and used it to send lewd messages to female employees.

The Amboli police arrested Jadhav, the director of Amboli-based Archive Interior Company Private Limited, on Monday night. A 29-year-old civil engineer, Jadhav was held for impersonation, obscenity and for insulting the modesty of a woman. He was later released on bail.

Police said, three months ago Reddy had applied for a job in the company. Jadhav had perused Reddy’s documents before giving him the job. “Within a few weeks, female employees of the company began getting lewd text messages, written in abusive language from a particular cell phone number,” said Senior Police Inspector Kailash Ghamande from Amboli police station. “After company authorities contacted the network provider, they learnt that the SIM card was bought in Reddy’s name.”

Reddy was repeatedly grilled and warned by his superiors including Jadhav. Unable to take it, Reddy complained to Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone IX) K M M Prasanna. Prasanna directed the Amboli police to probe into the incident.

Police said Jadhav claimed that several employees were unhappy with him because he was a taskmaster. To get even, he sent the SMSes and Reddy ended up being an unsuspecting pawn.

Besides office colleagues, Jadhav also sent similar messages to some other women whom he had met through chat rooms. “While he was not forthcoming about what had led him to send those messages, he kept repeating that he was frustrated,” said Kadam.
