The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to set up separate 24x7 control rooms for the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro corridor, Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle monoRail corridor and its other projects such as flyovers, widening of roads, skywalks.

The control rooms will be operational by June 1.

The information received by the control rooms will be disseminated to the site offices and patrol squads concerned from where immediate relief will be dispatched.

Each site office will be equipped with engineers and support staff in addition to machinery such as JCBs, dumpers, vans equipped with labour, road fixing material and equipment.

The development agency has earlier instructed its contractors to travel in mobile vans with paver blocks and road repair material and equipment to fix potholes that are likely to develop during rains.

The MMRDA has also ensured that all its projects are monitored 24x7.

“The contractors have been asked to strictly adhere to the safety measures such as barricading, reinstatement of damaged road work, clearing the muck on roads and disposing it properly,” said Joint Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwini Bhiode.
