The police have registered a case against Shiv Sena functionary Divakar Borkar after the noise levels at the party’s Dussehra rally, held at Shivaji Park on Sunday, exceeded the 50-decibel (dB) limit set by the Bombay High Court.
The Shivaji Park police named Borkar as organiser of the rally and registered a case on Sunday night after a police team and representatives of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board found that noise levels at the rally were higher than the prescribed limit. “We have filed a case because the organisers violated the noise limit laid down by the high court,” said SS Yadav, a sub-inspector, who is the complainant in the case.
Shivaji Park is a silence zone and the high court had allowed the Sena to hold a rally on the condition that noise levels do not exceed 50dB.
The Sena said it has not violated any law. “Let them [the police] investigate,” said Sanjay Raut, Member of Parliament and executive editor of the party’s mouthpiece, Saamna.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said action will be taken against those violating rules. “Everyone, including the government, has to follow the high court orders unless the Supreme Court has a different ruling on this,” he said.
